Casio Shock-Resistant Pilot’s Watch: Gravity Defier (GW-2500)

CASIO Computer Co., Ltd., announced the release of a new addition to its G-SHOCK line of shock-resistant watches, the GW-2500 with pilot specifications. The watch is one of CASIO’s new Gravity Defier series of G-SHOCK watches created to perform under the severe conditions found in an aircraft cockpit.

 

The new GW-2500 is designed for easy use by pilots, even under cockpit conditions subject to strong gravitational forces. The new model has G-SHOCK’s shock and vibration resistance and withstands major changes in shock and gravitational force. This G-SHOCK offers all the specifications required by pilots, including a face that can be read instantly, and large buttons for reliable operation of the stopwatch and other functions.

The GW-2500 has a well-organized combination face layout with hour and minute hands, small hands placed on the left and right sides of the face, along with two LCDs on the top and bottom. The resulting face design is reminiscent of cockpit instrumentation. The face is matte black, making it easy on the eyes even with bright high-altitude sunlight, and features indices rendered in white and orange for high contrast and a hand coated from base to tip in paint that glows in the dark. Furthermore, large, luminous numerals have been used for the 12 and 6 so that the time can be instantly checked under any conditions, including in the middle of aerobatic maneuvers.

The functions include CASIO’s Tough Solar power system that even charges and operates under relatively weak fluorescent lighting, as well as the Multiband 6 capability for receiving standard radio waves from six transmitters around the world (two in Japan, and one each in the Germany, the UK, the US, and China). This meets the needs of pilots who always require accurate timekeeping. There are also various time functions such as a world time function that can Simultaneously display the time in three cities — Universal Coordinated Time and times for 48 cities around the world — by making use of the main hands, an LCD, and the small hand at the three o’clock position, and a stopwatch accurate to 1/100 of a second. Ease of use has been further improved with water resistance up to 20 Bar, and a full auto LED light that illuminates automatically when the watch is angled toward the face for viewing in dark conditions.

In order to promote the image of the practical Gravity Defier series and its flagship model, the GW-2500, CASIO is supporting the 2009 Red Bull Air Race World Championship. This event showcases pilots with the world’s best flying skills performing aerial acrobatics under gravitational forces of up to 12 Gs. The company will undertake sales promotion campaigns in conjunction with this event.
