Sports Watches

Sports Watches Are for Active People

Sports watches are designed to deal with tough use and active people. Usually they are rugged and bulky.  If it's a mechanical watch, then the bezel is usually rotating and marked so that the watch is easy to read if you’re active. Many sports wrist watches also have chronograph functions with start, split and stop buttons. For anyone who likes to run at a certain pace, there's nothing more frustrating than slowing down to read the split off your chronograph. It's nice to have a BIG display, preferably digital.

These watches are often water-resistant or water-proof.  If water resistance is important to you, then choose very carefully because no two watches are the same.  A watch that claims to be water-resistant to 50m or up to 200m is almost definitely not suitable for diving. A watch resistant to 50m will stand up to rain or perhaps a shower, but should not be used for swimming. A watch resistant to between 100m and 200m would be suitable for swimming and shallow diving. It is not recommended to try to descend to those depths with such watches. If you want to do diving, the water resistance must be certified as “diver” and helium safe if you plan on doing saturation diving (300m+ watches only).

The main categories of sport watches are digital (e.g., Timex Ironman), pilot (e.g., flight, yachting, etc.) and diver and most of them have a chronograph function. Brand Name Watch Auctions has a wide selection of sports watches from all the major brands.
