Dress Watches

Wear Dress Wrist Watches for Formal Occasions

Dress watches are meant for dressy or formal occasions, which means they are typically to be worn with a suit or a gown/dress. Elegance is the main criteria for a dress watch.

Dress watches usually do not deviate from fairly basic colours and tones (black, silver, gold), so they won't be funky. For the most part, they are relatively thin so they can fit under a man’s suit and shirt sleeves or look elegant on a woman’s wrist. A huge watch tends to bunch up the sleeve at the wrist and brings too much attention to the arm. Both ladies and mens dress watches are smaller than other watches for this purpose.

Watches that have a rotating bezel or any bezel with markings on it are not recommended because they are distracting since the focus should be on the individual, rather than the watch. Such complications add unwanted size. For example, many of Omega's De Ville series of wristwatch come with no markings in order to maintain an air of sophistication and elegance.

Most of the watches in this category come with a leather strap in order to give a more refined appearance.

Of course none of this really matters when one really wants to wear a dress watch every day, but it will likely turn into a worn casual watch and lose its appeal over time. We recommend having several watches, even for non enthusiasts, for different occasions... almost like shoes.
