Bulova Accutron Watches for Sale
How A Bulova Accutron Works
The first Bulova Accutron watches were sold to the public at the end of 1960 after several years of development. What sets the Accutron apart from other mechanical watches is the use of tuning forks instead of balance wheels in the timing mechanism.
The advantage of using tuning forks in a mechanical watch is that they provide higher accuracy for time keeping, hence the name “Accutron”. In a traditional mechanical watch, energy is stored and transferred to gears, which in turn power the balance wheels that vibrate a few times per second to move the hands. Power is always lost in that process, compounded if the bearings are not properly lubricated. Tuning forks, however, vibrate hundreds of times per second to move the hands directly making timing much more accurate.
Bulova Accutron watches are battery operated.
